Feb 14, 2018 — A wilderness protection agency says Ontario’s Algonquin wolves are quickly disappearing because hunting, trapping, road building and increasing breeding with coyotes that dilutes the gene pool.
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is urging the provincial government to eliminate hunting and trapping of Algonquin wolves within a recovery zone as well as protect its habitat by limiting and reducing roads.
They are also asking for more research and monitoring of the wolves, which are listed as a threatened species.
The province will be accepting public input on their Proposed Algonquin Wolf Recovery Strategy until today. (The Canadian Press)

Let’s hope Canada can do a better job of protecting the Algonquin wolf than the US has done for the red wolf!
I think the politics are quite different in each Canadian province, but I completely agree.
Much much more should be done to protect Algonquin wolves , from declining . hunting them should be ceased with immediate affect and they should be listed as hunting and trapping has caused them to decline and is altering their gene pool. They must be saved now.. No excuses . stop hunting them and create a buffer zone . put in place a recovery programe . trophy hunting and trapping is the problem causing in balance . nature has its own dictates and rules of balance and if it is left Alone will correct itself .but right now Algonquin wolves need a helping hand in recovery.if they are to survive .
